County Attorney Internship Program

What We Do
The Williamson County Attorney’s Office is a public prosecutor’s office that represents the State of Texas
and Williamson County in a wide range of legal matters. The elected County Attorney employs 22
attorneys, 5 investigators, and 25 staff members that practice criminal law, juvenile law, family law, and
civil law in the District Courts, County Courts at Law, and Justice Peace Courts in Williamson County, Texas.

Internship Program
The Student Legal Internship Program is an intern program run by the County Attorney’s Office that
provides certain law students the opportunity to work in a Texas prosecutor’s office and see first‐hand
how legal services are provided to the public on the front line. Interns have the opportunity to:

  • Gain real courtroom experience in a hands‐on setting
  • Observe and take part in motion practice, contested hearings, and trials
  • Assist with case review, investigation, and trial preparation
  • Talk to witnesses and crime victims about ongoing cases

Minimum Qualifications
Internships are limited to law students who are in their 2L or 3L year or who are law school post‐graduates.
Preference will be given to students who are eligible for a Temporary Trial Card though the Texas Bar
Association. Internships are unpaid, and any interns accepted into the program are subject to background
checks and other security measures. If you are doing an internship for school credit, we will work with
your law school to accommodate your school’s academic requirements.

Deadlines for Application
The County Attorney’s Office has two intern induction periods, one for the summer and one for the fall.
For summer internships (May – August), an application must be received by the County Attorney’s Office
no later than April 30th. For fall internships (August – November), an application must be submitted no
later than July 15th. If you cannot intern during these time periods, we will consider any special
circumstances on a case‐by‐case basis.
