S.T.A.R.T. - Seeking To Accept Responsibility Today

The S.T.A.R.T. class is a one time, 3 1/2 hour program held on Saturday morning (8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) open to all youth ages 10 – 16 in the community. The class is held on the first and third Saturday of each month.  Even though the class is open to anyone in the community, most students in attendance have been referred to Williamson County Juvenile Services Department due to having recent contact with the police or problems at school.  The class is facilitated by an experienced Juvenile Probation Officer and is held at the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center at 200 Wilco Way, Georgetown, Texas 78626.

The Class

The class is designed to accomplish the following goals:
Provided information about the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center and what takes place inside.
--  Provide information about the Williamson County Academy (residential military program).
--  Provide information about the Texas Juvenile Justice System.
--  Provided general information about how referrals to the department are handled.
--  Provide an opportunity to ask questions about the Texas Juvenile Justice System and Williamson County Juvenile Services.

YES, parents are expected to attend the class with their child or children. The information presented and discussed during the class is intended to educate and inform both juveniles and parents in attendance. One of the most important aspects of the class is to provide full opportunity for people in attendance to ask questions and help ease any anxiety about what might happen next after their child has had contact with the police. We believe it is very important that the child and parent hear the same information at the same time.  The majority of parents who attend the class are glad they attended and have expressed that the class was well worth their time.
NOTE: Again, the reason why people are attending the class IS NOT mentioned or discussed in this open public setting!
